Oral health emphasis in dietetic internship programs

A questionnaire survey involving 85 dietetic internship programs evaluated nutrition and diet practices to oral health. The purpose of the survey was to study the emphasis being placed on such programs for preparing interns to function effectively as members of the dental health care team. The results indicated that over half the programs included educational experiences relating dietary and nutritional factors to dental health, although considerable variation was observed among programs. Guidelines for preparing dietetic interns for interactions with patients requiring oral care are identified.(wz)
