In open-ended spinning systems, such as rotor and friction drum spinning, collection of fibres on collecting surface and twisting of the yarn are being done by one mechanical element of the machine. A change in amount of the twist or speed of the collecting surface would interfere with the other one and could create difficulties. In Lawrence and Jiang’s disc and box spinning, this problem is solved by separation of the two actions and their mechanical component. However, the yarn was not commercialized due to its low strength. In this research, box parameters affecting fibre orientation in the box groove (collecting surface) were optimized by surface response methodology for longer fibre extent and better orientation of the fibres. A great number of fibre images were analysed and their results were used in calculations. It was concluded from the results that, fibre extent statistic E / L and fibre orientation statistic improved 96.42 and 61.59%, respectively, with respect to the original box.
