The Relationship Between Fluoride Content of Water with Different Soil Parameters
2015
Anwala, R. | Gulati, I.J.
An investigation was carried out to assess the status of fluoride in the ground irrigation waters and its effect on Soil of Nawan tehsil. From 50 villages of Nawan tehsil, 100 ground water and soil samples were collected and analysed for various chemical constituents. The results indicated that only 29 per cent water samples were found to have fluoride content less than 1.5 ppm i.e fluoride content within permissible limit for drinking purpose asper W.H.O. and also safe for irrigation purpose. EC, RSC, Adj. SAR, Sodium and magnesium cations and chloride and carbonate + bicarbonate of water had shown marked effect on fluoride content of ground water as evidently indicated by a highly significant positive correlation coefficient between fluoride and EC, RSC and Adj. SAR of ground water. Majority of soil samples belonged to pH₂ below 8.5, EC₂ between 0.2–0.4 dS m¹, Organic carbon between 0.1–0.2 per cent, SAR below 2.5, CEC between 2.5–5.0 and ESP below 50. The EC₂, SAR, ESP, chloride and fluoride of soil had significant positive correlation with fluoride content of irrigation water.
