Serum total cholesterol level - How high is too high?
1985
Data from the largest prospective cohort study of serum cholesterol levels indicates coronary heart disease (CHD) risk rises sharply at cholesterol levels above 220-240 mg/dl. One researcher, however, charges that 240 mg/dl is the US adult mean, depicting the US population as relatively hypercholesterolemic, and argues that CHD incidence begins to increase at cholesterol levels above 180 mg/dl and that 210 mg/dl cholesterol is a more appropiate upper normal limit for adults.
