The temptation of chocolate
1984
Robinson, Dick
Chocolate has had a lot of bad press, but recent evaluation suggests that in reasonable quantities it isn't that bad for a person. Chocolate contains no cholesterol unless butter and milk are added, but it does contain saturated fat. A typical 1.5 oz milk chocolate bar contains 220 calories, 9 mg caffeine and 40 mg sodium, plus some assorted vitamins and minerals. Six Hershey's Kisses contain 150 calories. Chocolate also contains phenylethylamine, a chemical also produced by the brain. A milk chocolate bar is compared nutritionally to an apple and the effects of chocolate consumption on tooth decay and acne may not be as serious as previously thought. (kbc)
