Nutritional linkages in a rural development project in Turkey
1985
Rabeneck, S.
A detailed report describes how the methodology of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN has been applied in a rural development project financed by the World Bank (budget: $US140 million over 5 years) that currently is being implemented in a province in eastern Turkey. Specific attention is given to: household food consumption levels and adequacy; socioeconomic factors as threats to household food security; problems having direct nutritional consequences that could arise because of the project; increased workloads for women as a result of increased crop yields targeted by the project; and the need to improve nutrition by improvements in hygiene, food handling, and water usage. The need to consider, design, and implement a nutrition component into the project is highlighted and discussed.(wz)
