Two triterpenoid saponins were isolated from the root of Sideroxylon cubense and their structures were established as 3-O-beta-D-gluco pyranosyl-28-O-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1 leads to 3)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl(1 leads to 4)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1 leads to 2) beta-D-xylopyranosyl] protobassic acid and 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl protobassic acid. The first, designed as sideroxyloside A, is a new natural product.
