Chinese solar greenhouse (CSG) is a kind of greenhouse used in Northern China, which has walls on its east, west and north sides with a plastic cover on its south side. CSG is the most popular protected cultivation facility in northern China, particularly in Liaoning, Hebei and Shandong Provinces, covering more than a third of total strawberry production area in China. CSG is suitable for strawberry cultivation in cold areas for its advantages of better heat preservation and higher yield comparing to plastic tunnel although its construction cost is higher. Strawberry grown in CSG is harvested four months earlier than in plastic tunnel. The construction of CSG is described in this paper. The determination of suitable cultivars, use of strong plants, measures of accelerating flower bud differentiation, transplanting, and integrated management of water, nutrients, temperature, light, plant development, diseases and pests are briefly described.
