Controlling absenteeism can help curb hospitals' costs
1978
Snyder, Sonya M.
Absenteeism involves costs associated with sick pay, overtime pay, decreased employee morale and productivity, and less effective patient care. The key to success is management's concern and the first-line supervisor's efforts to keep employees informed about management's expectations regarding attendance. Management's role in control should include thoroughly recording and evaluating employee's attendance patterns, counseling and disciplining employees when necessary, and applying attendance policies with consistency from department to department. A specific hospital's control program is described.
