Nutrient data for Mexican-American foods: Are current data adequate?

Mexican Americans eat both Mexican and American foods. Nutrient data for the American foods are readily available in a variety of databases, whereas data for Mexican foods are more difficult to find. Because the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) survey databases are widely used and are often the foundation for other databases, the adequacy of the USDA databases for use in the estimation of Mexican-American dietary intakes is discussed in this article.
