A novel method for the separation/analysis of Allura Red based on using the pyridine ionic liquid functionalized metal-organic framework nanocomposite (MOF-5@[PrPy][Br]) as extractant coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was established. MOF-5@[PrPy][Br] was characterized by FTIR, SEM, XRD, XRF, and BET. Several important factors, such as pH of the sample solution, amount of extractant, extract time, and types of eluents, were investigated in detail. Under the optimized conditions, the linear range of the method was 0.01–10.0 μg mL⁻¹, the detection limit was 4.0 ng mL⁻¹, and the linear correlation was good (R² = 0.9996). The enrichment factor was 20 and could be reused for 6 times, while the extraction rate was still higher than 85%. This method had been successfully applied to the determination of Allura Red in soda, cocktails, effervescent tablets, and jelly with satisfactory results.
