Schistosoma mansoni, histopathological study of attrition of challenge cercariae in skin of 3 groups of mice (naive, chronically infected, highly X-irradiated cercaria-immunized), 3 main kinds of schistosomular attrition observed: (1) in granulocytic exudates in epidermis, (2) in granulocytic aggregates in subcutaneous tissue, and (3) in granuloma-like foci in subcutaneous tissue, results clearly indicate that skin is important site for attrition of challenge cercariae in highly X-irradiated cercaria-immunized mice, and that immunity in chronically infected and X-irradiated cercaria-immunized mice occurs by different mechanisms
