Phage J2-1 was isolated from surface coastal seawater off Qingdao, China in July 2015. It is the first time that a phage active against Pseudoalteromonas phenolica CECT 7645(T) has been isolated. Morphological analysis using transmission electron microscopy revealed that phage J2-1 has an 87±3nm head, a 111±3nm long tail and appears to belong to the family Myoviridae. Genomic analysis of J2-1 revealed a genome size of 142,204bp with 37.92% G+C content and 180 ORFs. Overall the ORF sequences accounted for 89% of the genome sequence. A genome comparison using the BLASTN tool in the NCBI database found no obvious similarity between J2-1 and other known phages.
