A nutritional report discusses issues related to supplementary feeding programs for children, particularly in developing countries. Attention is given to the nature, cost, and nutritional value of weaning foods and to the use of complementary and supplementary foods for infants and young children. Five specific interventions employing complementary/supplementary feeding are delineated, viz.: extension nutrition education; provision of free weaning foods to mothers; school feeding using donated foods; maternal feeding promotion; and supplementary feeding programs for low-income adult workers in developing countries.
