School systems ask additive-free lunches

The New York City school system is having an impact on the food industry and other school systems by insisting on the removal of almost all additives from school lunches. Preservatives were reduced to a minimum, artificial colorings and flavorings banned (except for margarine), sugar coated cereals eliminated, MSG and hydrolyzed vegetable protein banned. New products include fresh pudding mix and sesame seed snacks. Indications are that student acceptance is high and costs are actually lower.
