KSiH₃ in HMPT and monoglyme solutions has been investigated by ¹H and ²⁹Si NMR spectroscopy; chemical shifts and coupling constants have been measured. The polysilyl anions H₃SiSiH₂⊖, (H₃Si)₂SiH⊖ and (H₃Si)₃Si⊖ have been prepared (a) from SiH₃⊖ with excessive SiH₄, (b) from SiH₃⊖ and Si₃H₈ and (c) from K and Si₂H₆ or Si₃H₈ in HMPT. They have been identified by ¹H NMR and IR spectroscopy, and their structures are deduceable from the spectral data.
