Four novel triterpene glycosides were isolated from the roots of Schefflera bodinieri. The structures of the compounds have been determined as 28-O-[alpha-L-rhamopyranosyl-(1 leads to 4)-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 leads to 6)-]-beta-D-glucopyranoside of 3 beta-hydroxy-isopolygalic-13(14)-ene-28-acid, 28-O-[alpha-L-rhamopyranosyl(1 leads to 4)-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1 leads to 6-]-beta-D-glucopyranoside of 3-oxo-isopolygalic-13(14)-ene-28-acid, 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1 leads to 6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside of 3 beta -hydroxy-isopolygalic-13(14)-ene-28-acid and 28-O[alpha-L-rhamopyranosyl-(1 leads to 4)-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 leads to 6)-]-beta-D-glucopyranoside of 3 beta-hydroxy-18-methyl-polygalic-13(14)-ene-28 acid. The structure elucidation is based on spectroscopic data, including 1H-1H COSY and 13C-1H COSY NMR.
