Microteaching: A model for employee counseling education

An instructional model employing microteaching techniques and videotape simulation was used to improve employee counseling skills of undergraduate dietetic students. Coached clients provided realistic counseling case experiences. Evaluation of the videotapes generated feedback for the students learning how to communicate and counsel effectively. Following taping sessions, counseling principles were reviewed, and criteria on a counseling checklist were rated. Students completed a Self-Perception of Confidence form to evaluate the effectiveness of the model as a tool in employee counseling education.
