Imaging evaluation of the human nipple during breast-feeding
1988
Smith, W.L. | Erenberg, A. | Nowak, A.
A new real-time non-invasive method, based on ultra-sound sensing, is described that can be used to determine the anatomical characteristics of a mother's breast nipple during breast feeding. The method was applied to the determination of nipple deformation and the mechanisms of normal infant sucking in 16 normal 60-120 day-old infants. It is suggested that this method can be used to discern feeding abnormalities during breast feeding. The data are transmitted and recorded on a videotape for visual inspection.(wz)
