Continuous nasogastric drip elemental feeding
1983
Weizman, Zvi | Schmueli, Avigail | Deckelbaum, Richard J.
It was shown that continuous nasogastric drip feeding (rather than periodic feeding) with an elemental diet is a satisfactory and safe alternative to total parenteral nutrition in many infants having severe, prolonged diarrhea. Mean weight gain for 18 such infants was 6.4 g/kg/day using a solution providing up to 87 kcal/dL at intake volumes of up to 260 mL/kg/day. No cardiovascular or metabolic abnormalities occurred as a result of this feeding regimen. (wz)
