Modification of Muir et al.'s (1980) finite-difference model was made by including natural convection heat transfer and heat generation from respiration of grain to predict grain temperatures in vertical-standing, cylindrical steel bin. Experimental data showed that bin size and initial moisture content affected the grain temperature differences between the top surface and the bottom of the bin. The average grain temperature followed the trend of the ambient air temperature with a time delay. Good agreement between the experimental and predicted temperature verified the applicability of the modified model. The inclusion of heat transfer by natural convection and internal heat generation greatly improved the accuracy of temperature predictions.
