Hyperphagia
1978
Stricker, E.
Six animal models for hyperphagia which were selected to identify some of the diverse variables that influence food intake are briefly described. These influences are diet palatability, stress, insulin induced hypoglycemia, genetic obesity, ventromedial hypothalamic lesions, and serotonin depleting brain lesions. An analysis of the mechanisms of hunger and satiety provides a framework for discussing possible therapeutic implications. An appropriate strategy depends on determining which of its diverse origins is responsible for obesity in each patient.
