Fad diets: fact and fiction?
1987
Cowley, D.K. | Sizer, F.S.
A monograph stresses that fad diets are ill-advised and should not be adopted unmodified as a means of weight loss, and provides information and guidelines on a number of types of long-lasting fad diets and 20 scientific principles they use as their basis. Most of the text focuses on discussions of each of these priciples. Strategies are given for each of the principles, addressing a wide range of weight-loss concerns, and offering a variety of suggestions to permit people to chose those techniques that best suit their individual preferences and lifestyles. The text concludes with a table listing each of the fad diets and the principles the employ. Information illustrating why fad diets should not be used unmodified and contrasting them with sound weight-loss programs is appended.(mjs)
