Management of Root-Knot Nematode, Meloidogyne incognita on Tomato

Pot culture experiment was conducted for the management of root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita on tomato using biofertilizers in presence or absence of inorganic balanced fertilizer revealed that all the treatments barring untreated check significantly increased the plant growth parameters and reduced the multiplication of root-knot nematodes. However, application of VAM (Glomus fasciculatum) as biofertilizer @ 100 kg/ha + balanced N-P-K fertilizer @ 125-50-100 kg/ha performed the best by increasing the shoot length (52.41%), root length (58.71%), fresh shoot weight (92.09%), fresh root weight (42.42%), dry shoot weight (93.58%), dry root weight (69.2%) with Corresponding decrease in root galls (32.33%), egg masses (10%), final root knot nematode population in soil (73%) and in root (64.87%) over untreated check. Thus, these G. fasciculatum as biofertilizer could be one of the options for integrated management of M. incognita infesting tomato.
