Copper content and metallocalorie ratio of copper of some selected Nigerian foods and diets

Extract: The copper content of selected Nigerian foods and diets were analyzed by atomic absorption spectoscopy, and the total energy of foods estimated by bomb calorimetry. Classification of the foods according to copper density groups (using the concept of metallocalorie ratio) showed that most of the foods were poor sources of dietary copper. Results of the analysis of the selected diets suggest that daily copper intake in this environment may be less than 2.0 mg/day. (author/wz)
