Photolysis of a mixture of (Ph₃P)₂Pd(N₃)₂, Ph₃PAuN₃ and PhsPAuCI yields [(Ph₃PAu)₈(AuCl)₄Pd] after chromatographic separation. The cluster crystallizes in the triclinic space group P1̄ with a = 1675.45(8), b = 1870.57(6), c = 2673,15(9) pm, α = 82.30(3)°, β = 75.90(3)°, γ = 73.02(3)°, Z = 2. The twelve gold atoms form an icosahedron with the Pd atom in its center, and distances Pd-Au between 271.0(3) and 278.2(4) pm. The Au-Au distances range from 277.1(2) to 298.3(2) pm.
