Planning for a sustainable Emmen Zoo

A new zoo is being developed in Emmen. Six worlds of nature and culture will be presented to the visitors, immersing them in various ecosystems. Laying out and constructing a whole new zoo makes it possible to utilize the most modern developments in the field of sustainability. This is particularly important as Emmen Zoo is committed to reducing its environmental impact over the next 50 years to 5% of the level established in 1997, which can be achieved if the environmental impact is halved every 10 years. In this article, we present the aims of the new Emmen Zoo in relation to water purification and utilization, renewable-energy use and the treatment of waste products.
