New discoveries and tips on better microwave cooking methods are highlighted. Household current fluctuations can affect the oven's performance. Microwaves should have a separate 110-volt line. Testing for hot spots is recommended. Round and oval shaped cooking utensils are best. Cooking time varies with weight, density, shape, water content, bulk, composition, consistency and temperature of food. Add salt only after cooking vegetables. Defrost vegetables in the microwave oven to ensure shorter cooking time. Sources of additional information are named.
