An economic analysis of greenhouse vegetable production with inert soil in Sicily

The Italian greenhouse vegetable production has been continued to spread during ‘90s even if less then the previous decade. In the last five-year period a remarkable change in agricultural production techniques has been possible to note. Particularly the change has regarded the introduction of new cultivar, new production schemes and the introduction of new technologies for the management of production process. The introduction of inert soil represents one of the most important innovation for the cultivation of greenhouse vegetable production. The present economics survey of greenhouse vegetable production with inert soil has allowed to define the actual situation, of tomato crops as the main vegetable species in Sicily.
