Epidemiological study of the relationship between calcium and blood pressure
1983
Kesteloot, Hugo | Geboers, Jef | Van Hoof, Roger
Findings from an epidemiological study of 9,321 Belgian males indicated a significant, positive relationship between serum and urinary calcium (Ca) and blood pressure. The slope of the relationship between serum Ca and blood pressure was greater for males who restricted their sodium intake and for those who did not take hypertension medication. Blood pressure increased between ages 18-21, remained constant until ages 40-45, and rose rapidly thereafter. Urinary Ca also was found to have a significant, positive correlation with blood pressure in a further epidemiological study of Korean male and female subjects, but no significant relationship was found between urinary magnesium and blood pressure.
