A further investigation of the isoflavonoid constituents in an extract of Piscidia erythrina root bark has yielded 23 compounds, including 18 new 5,7-dihydroxylated isoflavones, and two new coumaronochromones related to lisetin. The extracts additionally contained three 5-deoxyisoflavones, only one of which has previously been reported. All the 5,7-dihydroxyisoflavones, and both the coumaronochromones, possessed a five-carbon side structure containing an alcoholic hydroxyl group. Possible biogenetic relationships amongst the Piscidia isoflavonoids are briefly discussed.
