Surface herbicide injection using air jets
1990
Zhao, W. | Solie, J.B.
A device was designed and tested to inject pesticides into the soil using high velocity air jets. The device consisted of a two fluid atomizer and multitube distributor mounted behind a standard 51 cm sweep. High velocity air atomized liquid herbicides and conveyed them through the distribution tubes. Outlets of the distribution tubes were oriented to direct jets of air conveying the atomized pesticide up into soil passing over the sweep. The device jetted a fluorescent tracer up to 4.5 cm through the soil. Control of a bioassay crop (wheat) by trifluralin was slightly poorer applied with the two-fluid surface jet injector than by incorporation with two passes of an "S" tine field cultivator.
