Mathematical models of leaf carbon metabolism: complexity versus simplicity
1989
Hahn, B.D.
A complex model involving the Calvin cycle and the glycolate and glycerate pathways of photorespiration, formulated in terms of a system of 33 non-linear differential equations, is compared with two now and much simpler models. The smaller models behave in such the same way as the larger one: photosynthesis is inhibited by higher model oxygen levels, while photorespiration is inhibited by higher model carbon dioxide levels. The induction phase of photosynthesis is adequately simulated. Photorespiration appears to have a stabilising effect in one of the models.
