During harvest, handling and transport carrot root is exposed to different type of loads while contact with variously shaped elements i.a. machninery parts. This contact can cause damage, bruise or crack in material structure and to result in quality of fruit in food industry fall or losses among growers. This paper presents a method for determining the surface pressure of carrot under various shaped loading elements, based on the finite element method and the COSMOS/M computer analysis. On the basis of images obtained through a numerical calculations, it was found that the highest load from viewpoint of the carrot root model under flat bar load was observed. The analyses of contours and surface pressure distributions indicated bruising areas in places of maximum strain concentration. In comparison, the lowest values of loads authors obtained while contact of carrot root against flat surface. The contours and pressure distribution along the contact surface were similar to results under load of circural element obtained.
