Screening of germplasm and correlation among certain characters in mango

An assessment of various vegetative and fruit characters was made in 42 cultivars of mango. Wide variation was found for all the vegetative and fruit characters studied offering enough scope for selection. It was observed that the extension growth during the fruit flush was correlated with the growth put forward in subsequent flushes and also to extension growth and number of internodes. The number of flowers per panicle had no correlation with yield. Plant height had positive correlation with first extension growth, number of internodes and yield. Heritability was found to be high for most of the characters studied including yield but was poor with regard to number of primary branches.
