A technical review summarizes and discusses the findings of clinical and epidemiological studies concerning dietary cholesterol relative to plasma cholesterol and coronary heart disease (CHD), with particular reference to those findings that provide a background for dietary recommendations for preventing CHD and other atherosclerotic vascular diseases. Data developed in modified fat diets and in between-individual and cross-sectional population studies are examined and discussed. Conclusions and recommendations are presented in terms of reducing dietary cholesterol intakes.(wz)
