Building a WIC program

The Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in Fairfax County, Virginia is an integral part of the health service system. The integrated approach leads to more comprehensive maternal and child care. The implementation and services of this WIC program are described, and these suggestions are made for those who are starting such a program: look at other WIC projects; take the time to do careful preplanning; and, integrate the program into the existing health care system.
