Simultaneous measurements of net photosynthesis and stomatal conductance of leaves of sour orange trees growing in normal and CO2-enriched air, together with similar data for cotton, soybeans and water hyacinth, suggest that a plant's photosynthetic response to atmospheric CO2 enrichment is inversely proportional to its degree of CO2-induced stomatal closure.
