The distribution and utilization of some amino acids in protein and energy deficient rats: III. The effect of cortisone
1978
Ohe, O.L.
Extract: Experiments were performed with male rats to ascertain the effect of cortisone on the distribution and utilization of an essential amino acid, valine, in normal and malnourished rats, using U-14C-valine. Control rats on cortisone showed increased activities in the serum, liver, kidney and diaphragm and also in the amount of valine in the bound form. Muscle showed decreased activity. The energy-restricted rats showed the same trend, though not as pronounced. With the protein-restricted animals there was a decrease in the diaphragm activity; otherwise, the pattern was similar to the control.
