Single-crystals of vaterite, the least-stable anhydrous polymorph of CaCO₃, are rare in biogenic and synthetic systems. We here describe the synthesis of high aspect ratio single crystal vaterite rods under additive-free conditions by precipitating CaCO₃ within the cylindrical pores of track-etch membranes.
