Cytospora canker of peach trees; spore availability and wound susceptibility
1969
Luepschen, N.S. | Rohrbach, K.G.
Cytospora pycnidiospores were collected from an infected peach orchard by using a washing and plating technique. Viable spores were obtained throughout the year, with the highest counts occurring during the summer. Spore availability was affected by both temperature and moisture. Wounds made on peach trees at various times of the dormant period through early summer indicate that less Cytospora infection is likely to occur under Colorado conditions if pruning is delayed until spring. A wound dressing such as shellac proved to be effective for protecting early winter cuts.
