Biology of Euseius citrifolius, a candidate for the biological control of Mononychellus tanajoa (Acari: Phytoseiidae, Tetranychidae)

Furtado, I.P. | Moraes, G.J De
Mononychellus tanajoa (Bondar) is an important pest of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) in different parts of Africa and South America. The predaceous phytoseiid Euseius citrifolius Denmark & Muma is commonly found associated with M. tanajoa on cassava in southern Brazil. The present work was conducted to evaluate the suitability of M. tanajoa as a food source for E. citrifolius. The results showed that, although M. tanajoa was not the preferred food item, E. citrifolius could still develop and reproduce on that prey, especially when other food items were also available. This predator seems a promising species to be used for the biological control of M. tanajoa.
