Studies on toxicopathology of Japanese Quils (Coturnix coturnix japanica) treated with consecutive graded dose level of Ciprofloxacin

The present study was conducted to evaluate the toxicopathological effects of ciprofloxacin, given in graded dose level in Japanese Quail. The total no. of birds were divided into four equal groups at the end of 2ⁿᵈ week of age, viz. one control (Group I) and three treatment groups (viz. Group II, III and IV). Each birds of Group II, III and IV were administrated orally with ciprofloxacin at the dose level of 5 mg/kg body weight, 10 mg/kg body weight and 15 mg/kg body weight, respectively for 2 weeks, starting from the end of 2ⁿᵈ week to the end of 4ᵗʰ week of age. Five birds in each group were sacrificed on 14 DPT by cervical dislocation. Clinically, the birds of Group II and Group III revealed dull and depression with mild diarrhoea. Birds of group IV exhibited a greater extent of clinical symptoms than group II and III. In addition, Group IV birds also manifested respiratory distress and lameness.
