The peach aphid, Brachycaudus (Appelia) schwartzi Borner, a new pest in stone-fruit orchards of Israel
1997
Swirski, E
The peach aphid, Brachycaudus (Appelia) schwartzi Borner, was discovered in Israel in 1993 on nectarines in the Judean Mountains and on peach and plum in the Foothills of Judea, causing heavy damages to peach trees. During autumn and winter B. schwartzi reproduces in the Foothills of Judea parthenogenetically. Although two males were found, neither oviparous nor winter eggs were detected. In preliminary studies the following natural enemies were recorded: maggots of gallmidges Aphidoletes aphidomyza Rondani (Diptera, Cecidomyidae), larvae of hover flies, Syrphidae, undetermined hymenopterous parasitoids and the fungus Erynia neoaphidis Remaudiere and Hennebert.
