Post breeding oxytocin-induced PGF sub(2alpha) release in mares with and without delayed uterine clearance [prostaglandin F]

English. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the oxytocin-induced PGF sub(2alpha) release in 21 mares with (DUC) and 13 without (WUC) post breeding delayed uterine clearance. Immediately before, 5 and 10 minutes following oxytocin administration, blood samples were collected for 15-keto-13,14-dihydro-PGF sub(2alpha) (PGFM), oestradiol-17beta (E2) and progesterone (P4) analysis by RIA. No statistical significant differences were found concerning PGFM pre- and post-treatment levels in DUC vs WUC, but an enormous variation was found among individuals in each group. Significant differences of pre- vs post-treatment PGFM levels were found in DUC mares (p=0.01), but not in WUC mares. E2 (3.3 vs 2.1 pg/ml) and P4 (0.2 vs 0.3 ng/ml) plasma levels at treatment were not different between DUC and WUC mares

[Lo scopo del presente studio era la valutazione del rilascio di PGF inf(2alfa) indotto dall'ossitocina in 21 cavalle con (DUC) e in 13 cavalle senza (WUC) ritardata clearance uterina dopo l'accoppiamento. Immediatamente prima, 5 e 10 minuti dopo la somministrazione di ossitocina, sono stati prelevati campioni di sangue e sono state effettuate, mediante RIA, le determinazioni plasmatiche del 15-cheto-13,14-diidro-PGF inf(2alfa) (PGFM), del 17beta-estradiolo (E2) e del progesterone (P4). Non sono state osservate differenze statistiche significative riguardo ai livelli di PGFM pre- e post-trattamento nelle DUC rispetto alle WUC, ma è stata trovata un'enorme variazione fra individui in ogni gruppo. Sono state riscontrate differenze significative dei livelli di PGFM pre- vs post-trattamento nelle fattrici DUC (P=0,01), ma non in quelle WUC. I livelli plasmatici di E2 (3,3 vs 2,1 pg/ml) e di P4 (0,2 vs 0,3 ng/ml) al trattamento non erano diversi fra le fattrici DUC e WUC.]
