English. Septoria cirsii is the casual agent of a severe leaf blight of Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense), a very common weed of fields and pastures. In artificial inoculation, the fungus resulted more virulent than in natural conditions, causing the appearance of more serious necrotic symptoms. In the present communication the first interesting results on the potential utilization of S. cirsii as mycoherbicide against C. arvense are reported

Da foglie malate di Cirsium arvense, una infestante largamente diffusa nelle colture agrarie e nei pascoli, e stato isolato un deutoromicete sferossidale, identificato come Septoria cirsii. Il fungo, agente di macchie fogliari, in prove di inoculazione artificiale e risultato piu virulento che in condizioni naturali, causando la comparsa della malattia in forma molto piu grave. In questa comunicazione vengono presentati i primi promettenti risultati sul potenziale impiego del fungo quale micoerbicida per la lotta biologica contro Cirsium arvense
