English. The Mediterranean sector of Europe processed fruit industry has been in a downturn in the last few years. The principal reasons are to be sought in the fluctuating annual harvests of fresh fruit, sagging consumer demand for canned products, especially pears and peaches, increasing market competition driven by foreign imports and, last but not least, the cut-back in EU subsidies to processors. The individual issues are discussed and analysed in an attempt both to clarify matters and to offer a series of options for revitalising the processed fruit and juice sectors, with the emphasis focused on peach and pear products

Le cause principali sono da ricercare nell'andamento altalenante delle produzioni di frutta fresca, nel calo dei consumi di frutta sciroppata, in particolare per le pere e le pesche, nell'accresciuta competitivita' dei prodotti stranieri e infine, ma non meno importante, nella diminuzione degli aiuti comunitari all'industria di trasformazione. In questo articolo gli AA analizzano le singole problematiche della frutta allo sciroppo e dei succhi di frutta con l'obiettivo di fare maggiore chiarezza, indicando, inoltre, alcune possibili soluzioni per il rilancio del comparto della frutta trasformata, in particolare pere, pesche e albicocche
