New records of Bursaphelenchus spp. in Cyprus [Coniferales]

During a survey in November 1999, at several localities of Cyprus, 48 wood samples, including cut wood from conifers, showing damage or bad condition, were examined for the presence of Bursaphelenchus species. B. leoni was found in Pinus nigra and P. brutia and B. teratospicularis and B. idius in P. brutia. B. borealis and B. sexdentati had already been found on P. brutia in a survey during 1995, but their presence was not reported. Apart from B. leoni, the Bursaphelenchus species recorded herewith are new records for Cyprus. The dangerous pine wood nematode (B. xylophilus) was not found. The vectors of this nematode, Monochamus spp., are known not to occur in Cyprus

[Nel corso di un'indagine, effettuata nel novembre 1999 in diverse localita' di Cipro, sono stati esaminati 48 campioni di legno, comprendenti legno tagliato di conifere, presentanti danni o cattive condizioni, allo scopo di verificare la presenza di specie di Bursaphelenchus. B. leoni e' stato trovato in Pinus nigra e P. brutia e B. teratospicularis e B. idius in P. brutia. B. borealis e B. sexdentati erano gia' stati rinvenuti in P. brutia nel corso di un'indagine svolta nel 1995, ma lo loro presenta non era stata riferita. Eccetto B. leoni, le specie di Bursaphelenchus riscontrate in questo studio rappresentano segnalazioni nuove per Cipro. Non e' stato rinvenuto il pericoloso nematode del legno di pino (B. xylophilus). E' noto che a Cipro non si riscontra la presenza dei vettori di questo nematode, Monochamus spp.]
