After having indicated the main productive and economic aspects of the European chestnut in relation to the multiple-purpose value of this species, the main environmental factors (climate, soil and biotic adversities) are analyzed together with the choice of the propagation material (cultivars and rootstocks). The planting distances, the training and pruning adopted for European chestnut are illustrated and the rules for a new planting of this apparently hard species with serious problems of adaptability to non proper environments are given

Vengono illustrati i sesti d'impianto, le forme di allevamento e la potatura adottati per il castagno ed indicate le norme da seguire per l'impianto di questa specie, apparentemente rustica, la cui estensione colturale a zone non montane presenta inattesi ostacoli
