Jamaica Brahman cattle in the Minard livestock project
1983
Wellington, K.E.
The Minard project was conceived to fill a need which was identified in the cattle development programme in Jamaica. It is intended to be an institution for the promotion of Jamaica's three breeds of beef cattle. The activites in performance testing are to be expanded. Minard is accepted as the show window for the breeds. More than 50 % of the Minard activities are related to the Jamaica Brahman breed. This herd occupies a position at the apex of the breed pyramid and is expected to influence the composition in the breed in the years ahead. The demonstration of good husbandary practices and the commercial orientation at Minard provide a unique setting for training of livestock personnel.
